Time warp question on CATs

Gas powered cars had to have cats on them after 1976 but gas powered pickups did not. What year did the feds make it mandatory to have cats on gas powered pickup trucks?

I think for the most part you will see cats on '79 and later trucks but gross vehicle weight has alot to do with it ..In other words the heavyer the truck , F250, F350, ECT they may not have a cat ..but I think you will find that the '79 trucks have cats

1980 AFAIK (at least, thats the first year Massachusetts recognizes)

For some reason I had 1973 in my head as the first year for cats. Maybe this was the first year for "emissions equipment"?

I believe 73 was the first year that cars had to have cats. I think they started on the truck around 77-78, but the smognazis dont care unless it is 83 or newer WOOHOO
