Catalytic converter question

Are the cats on the Ford trucks of this era the most restrictive cats ever, or are they just a really quiet design? You can have a cat back straight pipe, and it still be very quiet. Is that restriction or just a quiet design? What kind of power is there to be had without them? Did Ford rate their engines power with the cat installed?

All cats quiet exhaust down a lot. But keep in mind, a 300-6 isn't exactly a powerhouse, so it's not going to be THAT loud anyways.

Engine power is always rated with full accessories, intake, and exhaust.

Thanks for the answer to the ratings question. I don't have a 300 anymore. I have a 460 now. I have never seen cats that were as quiet as the cats on these Fords which is why I ask are these more restrictive than most or just quieter than most?
