so i just got my long tube headers and there isnt a bung for an oxygen sensor. so my question is, if i just dont put the sensor back on, what will the effects be? loss of power? bad gas mileage??
my buddies 89 had longtubes when he got it, the wiring for the o2 was zip tied to the frame. the change in power, driveability and economy with just one sensor on the right side was night and day.
The O2 sensor is the only feedback the engine computer has to tell it how it's doing with fueling demands, without the O2 it runs in open loop all the time which greatly increases fuel consumption and engine wear. A muffler shop will weld in a bung no problem, it only takes a few minutes with a mig. And installing the sensor in the passenger side collector is fine too, I have my trucks setup this way and they run great. I would suggest putting the header into position to mark the ideal location for the sensor before taking it to the shop however, because the header will sit on an angle when mounted on the engine and there may be transmission lines that will interfere with the sensor.
