fan question

I need a fan. Mine is a S C6ME A 913171D71 Above this is a FORD stamp. It was on a 87 460 f250 auto 4x4 Anyone know anything? It was a 7 blade and cooled awesome. It has aluminum blades it is a 19 inch or so and ford said that their book specs a 5 blade but the picture showed a 7 blade and it was obselete.

Ebay or the wrecking yards. Lots of old 460's out there. LMC Truck might have some left in stock. Keep in mind you need the 460/7.5 specific fan clutch - the generic parts store ones are for small blocks and don't work. F250HD.

Let me try and clarify, that wasn't what I was trying to say in your thread in 80-86 which is HERE for anybody else who's watching.

First of all, I am not Ford, but I have the 80-89 FoMoCo Parts Catalog (available on CD from HiPo Parts Garage) and tried to help you.

Those pictures are general representations of the part in question (in this case, for the diesel engine) but they give you the Basic Part Number (8600 in this case).

One then needs to go to the Text section of the catalog to find the full Replacement Part Number for the application desired, which, in this case, will be xxxx-8600-x but is dependent upon the application and the xxxx will change accordingly.

The catalog lists each and every fan (and their specs) that came out of the factory on ALL Ford light trucks & vans 1980/89.

Even if a part has been obsoleted by Ford, it will still be listed in that catalog but will have a black star character next to the Replacement Part Number (denoting it's NLA in which case you're SOL and left with NOS or aftermarket vendors).

For this fan stuff, most of what's listed in the catalog also has the Ford Engineering ID Numbers - inscribed on the parts themselves - listed on the RH side of each entry, that information is prefixed with a #.

And I asked if you could find any other numbers because, as you and everyone else can see for themselves, there are no numbers like you described anywhere in the listing of Engineering ID Numbers column.

In your other post, you asked for info about 1987/91 fans and I told you that perhaps NumberDummy (the true mastah of all this from whom I learn much) may be able to find additional info about 1990/91 stuff but I wouldn't expect it to be different (and still don't).

Perhaps he will stop by and offer help, he certainly has much more information than I do.

Perhaps your fan originally came from a passenger vehicle and somebody added it sometime in life, but your engine clearly did not come out of the factory that way and those numbers you gave don't look at all familiar (go look in that # column to see what we'd be looking for).

Not "as original" it wasn't.

It was a 7 blade and cooled awesome. It has aluminum blades, it is 19 1/2" and ford said that their book specs a 5 blade * but the picture showed a 7 blade and it was obsolete.
Marked: C6ME-A = Ford part number: C6MY-8600-A .. Seven Blade Fan-Use w/fan clutch-has 2 3/8" center hole for this purpose / Obsolete

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 3 = 800-476-9653.

No FoMoCo Dealer, no other obsolete parts vendor has any.
---------------------------------------------------------
Passenger Car applications (all-with A/C): 1966/71 Ford/Merc 390/410/428 / 1968/78 Lincoln/Mark 460 / 1968/73 Ford/Merc 429 / 1974/78 Ford/Merc 460.

Truck applications: 1968/69 F350 300 I-6 with factory A/C / 1968/72 F350 360/390 with DRW.

* There is no 5 bladed fan marked w/a ID number of C6ME / The only other C6ME marked fan is this:

C6ME-B = C6MY-8600-B .. SIX Blade Fan-Not used with fan clutch, because it has a 5/8" center hole.

Not listed after 1979 for anything.
