I'm wanting to replace my door mirror on my 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty Diesel, 7.3 L.
On the inside of the door frame (near where it is hinged to the truck) there are 3 rubber bushing inserted in holes (probably not what they are called) and when I remove the top and bottom one, each has an easy nut to remove (mirror will not come off at this point). Removing the middle rubber bushing, leaves me with a fitting(???) I've never seen before.
<VAR id=yiv845016467yui-ie-cursor></VAR> It's shaped something like a wing nut, only with 3 wings instead of 2 and it fits into a slotted part of the door frame. It appears like you have to pull it towards you (spring loaded?????) (which would get it out of the slotted area) in order to loosen (turn) it. The problem is the hole is only about the size of a nickle coin and I don't know what you could use to get at it, if this is what's still holding the mirror in place.
I would appreciate any suggestions someone may have on how to remove this mirror. Thank you and have a great day.
First off Welcome to FTE! Although I don't know the part that you speak of, there should only be 4 nuts holding the mirror in place? Behind the top rubber grommet, the bottom rubber grommet and behind the "Tape" on the window side, here's a pic for reference,
There is a black plastic cover rearward of the 3 rubber grommets. It just snaps off. Under it is some insulating tape and under that are two holes with two more nuts. Take those off and the mirror will come loose.
