I have 11,000 miles on my truck and the 275/70/18 conitrac's tires are junk..
It rode bad from the first 100 miles.. I told my ford dealer from the start that they rode bad....They said it was nothing they could do.. I drove it for 3000 miles and rotated them and it still didnt help.. after 8000 miles I called continental tire. they told me to take it to a dealer which was 50 miles away. they looked at the tires and they were cupping bad...after about a month with calls to both dealer and continental they finally replaced them with the SAME tire.. and I payed to install.. the first 100 miles or so was a little better than the last ones but after 6 or 7 hundred more miles the vibration and bumping was unbearable.. Went to the ford dealer this time and was still told they dont do tire warrenties.. so after a few calls to FORD customer service.. MY dealer called me.. and said I had to take it back to continental dealer to prove it was a tire defect.... 5 hours at the cont.dealer and they said it WAS the tires causing the prob. and I had to take a paper back to ford dealer to prove this... I waiting to hear what they will do.... That was my last truck I will buy from my local dealer
Have the Ford dealer replace the tires to something OTHER than Continentals, or at least have Continental supply you with new tires of a different model.
Yeah the Conti's are junk. Theyve already had issues with some models that came stock on 08 models. My tires missed the warranty by 2 months or so. I know they were reimbersing purchases of other brands with that program, so shoot fot that. I cant wait to get these things off my rig. They are easy to leave smoke with however, its all theyre good for. haha
i have the contis on my 08. i bought the truck new and im at 47,000mi on them. they are about due for replacement, but wore perfectly and I never had any problems. I will note that they seemed to dryrot on the side walls a bit, but they wore fine with only 1 tire rotation. I will not be replacing with these though, I don't like the look of the tires.
I'm amazed that Ford is still using those POS tire. I cannot tell you how many guys with the 04-08 F-150's had to get their POS Continentals replaced. They were better than the BFG tires, but not by much.
Good call on the Michelins. The Goodyear Duratrac is another great tire, as well as the Silent Armor
Sorry to highjack a thread but I'm going thru the Conti blues also. I also do a lot of towing. Do the somewhat aggressive tread like the ones mentioned create any type of problem like in wear because of the towing or should a pattern somewhat like Conti's but hopefully better the way to go. I don't much off road other then a field once a while.
I replaced my Contis on my '05 with Goodyear Silent Armors and they were fantastic tires. I traded the truck when I had about 14k on the Goodyears and they were showing almost no wear. I towed with them and hauled heavy with them with no problems. They were also the best tires I've ever run on any vehicle in the snow. And there was little to no additional noise from them over the Contis.
Thanks for the feed back..I can see this site will be helpful... Is there anybody getting wind noise from the front of drivers door and sometime the center pilar area... on the 2011 supers cc....
There's a video in post #15 on how to eliminate it and make the doors seal better. And post #9 tells you which tubing to buy in order to complete the mod.
I think I covered it all and talked to everyone possible... all i saw on recalls was for 08 & 09....
its a shame we have to deal with the prob's on such a high dollar truck...
but it will only get worse .. i already hear china is making ford parts also..Ive been a loyal ford guy starting with a 1962 unibody truck in 1980 drove it for 12 years.. a 1988 f150 I still own and drive. 1992 250 I work every week ... 2005 superduty lariet 6.0 well that motor scared me.. 2008 super duty 6.4 that one scared me too.... so it looks like the newer they get the worse they build them... sure would hate to switch brands but.....
Well to be honest, switching brands isn't going to necessarily net you a better result. If Ford is sourcing parts from China, you can bet your bottom dollar that GM and Ram / Fiat are as well.
