Question Tie rod problems anyone??

I have a 1999 F-150 flareside with 50,000 miles
I don't off road it or anything like that (of course here in Northeast Ohio I'd be better off driving it off road 'cause our roads are so bad)
I had an outer tie rod bust on me the other day, thinking back I had remembered replacing a friends outer tie rod at about the same mileage.
I had asked around and found out that a lot of other guys I know have the same problems at about the same mileage.
I would think these things should last much longer than this...is there any sort of a recall on these?

I am also in belief that the auto door lock feature is designed to make the lock solenoids fail earlier...any tips on replacing one?
I looked into the door but thought I'd locate the part before trying to figure out how to remove it.

Tie rod problems anyone??

We have lots of rough gravel roads around here and I havent seen a tie rod end break on one of these trucks. Wear out yes but not break. As far as I know there is no recall on them.
The PDL actuators are a bit of a pain to replace. You have to remove the door panel and then remove the complete latch assembly. Disconnect the lock rods etc. Once you have the latch out there is just a tab to push in while you turn the actuator to remove it. If you get a new actuator it's pretty easy to see what has to be done.
