Dual Battery Option

Stumbled across this on Pirate today and it look like a good dual battery option when running winches, accessories, electric fans and so on with a 200 amp capability..

Stinger SGP32 200AMP High Current Relay Battery Isolator

Cant beat the price but never used one. Even cheaper on Ebay this one just had a better description on what it does. It just connects batteries together when igniton is on so they wont kill each other. If dont know if you just run 2 batterries together when motor is off they will drain themselves unless from what I've heard you run 2 batteries of the same size, brand and age.

I run a painless dual battery switch like this one which is the chit but kinda pricey!

Painless Wiring 40103 - Painless Performance 250 AMP Waterproof / Sealed Dual Battery Control System - Quadratec

The Stinger looks like it could be a nice setup...Inputs??

Yeah it can be done like I said but you need 2 exact identical batteries. I run mine with a 900 cca starting battery and the other is the largest yellow top deep cycle with the biggest reserve capacity.

I run two 1100 cca(I think) batteries.

Last time I was stuck, my alternator gave out, and I ran it for 3+ hours on just the batterys. N I have two electric cooling fans, electric fuel pump.

I know when I was is High school I hooked 2 batteries together and I had major problems with them going dead. It wasn't until later I knew about isolators and the purpose for them.

I really don't see how there could be issues with two hooked together. But as you said, same size and brand. Idk if age matters as much.

never had a winch or anything where i really needed dual batteries, well i had a pretty badass stereo system for a bit and had my light bar hooked up, but unless i for some reason had the amp cranked, the a/c on high, sitting at an idle and all lights on the f350's stock ammeter gauge would rarely budge. don't know what a 90's alternator puts out, but it seemed to be more than enough for most of my situations as long as i ran a good huge marine deep cycle battery.

brazillions of stock trucks running parallel, but they're the same size/type/age.

Isolator is nice if you're running diff types of batteries or if you have one going out and don't have time/money to swap it out right then.

For me I run the optima as main and don't always have them connected while wheeling. I like to connect on a hard pull. Best part is running one battery if it goes dead I flip the switch and flash it up and keep connected until they are both topped up again. I've done this a couple times with something left on or playing tunes camping or something. I made the mistake once on wiring the switch to the main battery and I was dead in a parking lot but flipping the switch couldn't activate under hood solenoid. I simply ran jumper cables to the batteries together with switch flipped and it fired up. Now it's wired to the aux battery for thus reason. I just like having full control over everything on rig like batteries , wireless winch controls, adjustable proportioning valve on dash and so on. Would love to have control of diffs like a ARB too but detroits treat me well and I got no complaints.
I'm surprised to see how many guys actually do run 2 batterries in parralel with no issues though..

You guys are missing the point of why 73 needs dual batteries with an isolator.

Imagine this...

His super tall and unstable pos flops over on its side, like Kirbys mom when you hand her a 2pc chicken box from KFC, causing one battery to slide out of its mount and be hit by the fan blade. The single battery doesnt have enough juice to stand the truck back up with his self righting jib crane-o-fail.

With the isolator he can take the battery out of what his gf calls "73s replacement" and not have to worry about it being a much larger battery than what he runs.

That was brilliantly hilarious!

Too bad batteries would never fall out as I built custom boxes for them out of 1/8 plate with 1/2 bolts to hold down!!
