Help!!! This is a problem that just arose with my 95 F150 302 auto 98k mi. Stock except for exhaust, shorty headers into bassani off road y pipe no cat si/do muffler 2.5" tails. timing set at around 14*.
I replaced the header gaskets today, and when i took the truck on a test drive i started noticing a "popping" under acceleration. It also idled rough, but not misfiring, and had what seemed to me to be very low power. Got it back to the shop, and while playing around under the hood i was able to determine its backfiring out the intake. My question is what would cause this? The first thing that comes to my mind is a cracked valve or blown seal, any other possible causes i can check out before I have to tear the engine apart? Thanks for any help, this kinda just totally ruined my weekend...
Sooo.... operator error lol. When i removed my headers, I undid the spark plug wires, and even though i checked em twice, I somehow missed 2 crossed wires both times. Runs much better now!
