Preventive maint tip for your A/C unit

Here is one that I had never thought of until today.

Had a bit of water driping inside where the return air/filter is. So went up top to see what was plugged up.

At least on mine and I sure it is an industry standard there are two small holes, one each side of the unit. These two holes are for the water to run off.

Well both of mine were plugged so I used a zip tie and cleaned them out and what do you know. All the water just ran right out.

I have never had one plug up before.

So I might be a good idea once a year, at the start of the season to pull the cover off and look in there.

Trouble is the box has to be loosened and the side panels have to come off so you can look at the coils.

Be careful and don't have the unit running while you do this.

Good advice Scott, I usually find dead tree frogs blocking up my drain holes.
I guess they live in the a/c, and come hoppin for a bug dinner when the outside light comes on. There is two out there right now.

The drip tubes drip into the bottom pan. Then on each side of the ac unit there is a drain hole to drain onto of the roof and then of course down the side of the trailer.

These two drain holes were clogged allowing the water to overflow the drain pan and then into the return air vent and then drip down thru the filter onto the floor inside the trailer.

I was starting to rain so I didn't get any pics or that would help alot.

I am not sure of the manufactor just off hand but will check it out.

I recently installed a new Dometic a/c, it has the drain holes on both sides.

Gotcha....I know the new fiver has clear drains due to the fact water was dripping onto the ground from the drip rails upon our look-see. (They had the a/c running for our comfort). Great info tho. Def worth a check when doing the roof prep beginning of each season.
