hole inside motor

hole inside motor

I am new to engine rebuilding, so this hole obviously isn't covered in the books. Should this hole be here?

depending on the engine there should be 4, 6, or 8 holes at a minimum. then a lot of other holes for other parts and stuff.

Did the picture not post? I'm posting via mobile FYI. In the picture, the hold is shown just below the distributor. I was thinking a push rod broke that wall.

X2 Yes, that's an oil drain back hole. It lets the oil that collects in the valley drain back into the oil pan.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same hole, not the one in the bottom of the valley, but the one in the wall of the block.
