Shifter problem and RPM shift points for E40D?
(This truck is new-to-me about 1,500 miles ago.)
I'm chasing a very hard shift into 3rd. It hits very hard if I have a lot of foot feed into it but I can get it to shift gentler if I back off the foot feed before it shifts. But the transmission lets the RPMs stay high (1,800 to 2,100 rpm) for a very long time in 2nd before it will finally kick into 3rd and then also very quickly into 4rth.
I just pulled the sensor on the rear differential. It was surprisingly clean and had zero filings or debris. I cleaned the connectors with contact cleaner and then applied dielectric grease and reassembled. I will know this afternoon if it made any difference but am not holding my breath.
My gear selector snaps out of Park rather than the clunk I'm used to on my two previous OBS trucks with 5.0 gas engines but with the same transmission. Should I research how to adjust the shifter cable and is there something I can inspect on the transmission shifter sensor?
