engine number de-coding
Still working on my 65 Merc's secret past...this time I'm trying to nail down the engine's year, as the PO seemed to think the engine was post-1965. It's a 300ci 6. Anyway, the code on the block is as follows, as best as I can make out:
D5TE(?) - 6015-AA
I'm not sure about that 'E', fourth letter. The rest I'm between 95 and 99% sure. Thanks for any suggestions!

If the block casting number has a D5TE prefix, the engine is from a 1975: D = decade 1970's / 5 = 1975 / T = Truck / E = Engineering.
All block casting prefixes have the E as the 4th letter.
Casting numbers are foundry markings only, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.
So, I have no idea what size the engine is.
If this is an FE engine, it's either a 360 or 390. The block is the same, as is the bore (4.05").
The stroke is different: 360 = 3.50" / 390 = 3.78."
However, if the first letter of the casting number is a C .. it would be a 1965 engine.
