I bought a block that was suppost to be a 360 but cant find the casting number? i says 352 on the front so i no its a fe and if has the molding number on it just cant find the casting number. i know were they r normally on fe's as i have 2 others. y would it not have the casting number on it? any help would be much apperciated. thanks
The block simply has no casting number. All of the 71-72 "352" blocks cast at Dearborn (DIF) I've had (both service and production) never had a casting number just a date code. 360 and 390 both have the same bore of 4.05 standard. 428's are 4.13. Most (not all) FE block casting numbers after 63 became generic anyway so using them to ID the block is useless most of the time. Measure the bore and see what you get.
ok thanks were going to messure it just didnt no if it was somethin bad if the casting number wasnt there. and its got the dif on it. thanks for the info. i have a 66 block that has a casting number so i didnt no.
Guys sorry to berge in on this post, but I'm fairly new to this site in that I don't really post much. I would like some more info on FE's as well. I am in the process of rebuilding a 76 highboy. I am taking out the engine thats in it and swapping it with another. So far i know its an FE, it has a 352 stamped on the front and I found a 45 DIF on the other side. I have some books and traced the numbers on the 4 barrel intake to a late 60's 360 that went in the galaxy. There really is no telling what this engine came out of, but I'm pretty sure it isn't original. The 4 speed that it is mated to is a NP 435 and they wern't used until 78 if I'm correct. I want to get rid of this engine and at least know what it is if someone asks. Any help and pointers would be great. Is there a market for these engines?
