ok so Iam new to the site and Iam doing some research on the v10 and 7.3psd on which one to buy.my day consists of about 20 to 30 miles a day but its all in town with no more then 3or4 miles at a time. I work in construction but i drop off and pick up my kids from school so its a lot of short trips.so i was wondering how you think the 7.3 would handle all of these short trip and what you think the mpgs would be.thanks.
Welcome to FTE! Personally, I don't think the 7.3 is what you want UNLESS you need to pull heavy construction equipment and supplies. If you are pulling large loads, the 7.3 is a mule and if you can hitch it, you can pull it. That's not to say that the V10 is what I would want for short hops like you describe. You might see 14 mpg with the 7.3 on short runs. Maybe slightly more, perhaps as much as 1 mpg less (depending on your driving style).
I will be towing a 10,000lb dump trailer 2 to 3 times a month and need the big motor or psd. it will also go to utah 2 times a year so iam just trying to figure out which one will be the best.

Daily drive my 7.3 all the time. Kids to school, to work (18miles round trip), grocery store, you name it. Never complains, hitch up the camper on the weekends and away we go. Couple things to think of though, I do let it cool(running) for a minute or so after I get to work, this is good for turbo. Gotta wait for glow plugs before starting, just a little different than a gasser thats all.
