I'm in the need of buying a rebuilt long block. My 400 has a cracked block and cracked head so it's new motor time.

Does anyone have any suggestion on a place to buy one or a place to stay away from?

Stay away from Advance/Autozone. I have heard of their engines being torn down to find only one or two cylinders bored with over size pistons instead of all of them. Also the cheapest parts in them to allow them to sell so cheap. A good junkyard/used block and a local rebuilder with a good reputation is the best way to go. Fordmotorsports would be another good option.

 

Look into this company: Rebuilt Engines and Rebuilt Motors from CME

Other alternatives include ATK (Remanufactured Engines, Crate Engine, Rebuilt Engines | ATK Engines | Remanufactured Engines & Transmissions) and Jasper (JASPER Engines & Transmissions: Remanufactured engine: diesel, marine, import)

If you could find a good one in a classified add as long as you could here it run and if the owner would let you run it long enough to know that it had good oil pressure when it warmed up you might save good money that way. Thanks/Robert

 

might want to check with this guy FordStrokers.com 331-347-408-418-427 Custom Built Small Block Ford Engines he builds a lot of motors for people on the mustang forums and they are very pleased....he ought to build a 351c/m/400 up too but i dunno....
