Hey guys, as I was getting measurements for a rand hand bumper up front i noticed something a little out of place. My leaf springs are arced upside down. with only about an inch to two inches of travel before it hits the frame rail stop. But here is my dilemma, I am in the process of getting new tires, but when i noticed the leaf springs i talked to a mechanic down the road (family member so I know it wasnt any BS) about the leafs and he said i should get that fixed before the tires because the tires i have are 65-75% tred and that they could hold of till end of winter if not longer. Problem is i only have enough money for one. Planning on doing a lift kit eventually i was just going to go to skyjacker and get a four inch lift so i wouldnt have to do it again, down the road. any opinions thanks
I will have to go look at mine, but I think the front leaf springs on my truck are pretty much neutral in their arch (meaning pretty much straight). I think you could also just pull them off and take them to a spring shop to have them re-arched as well, instead of replacing them if that is the way you want to go.
well i thought of that but, the money i put to re-arching good just go to my lift kit. i plan on getting one eventually its just to i put my safety into a cracked leafspring and good tires or somewhat decent tires and new leafs?
Is your truck a 250 or 350? Just wondering if you have the TTB or a D60? IMHO, if you're looking to lift the front a bit, a RSK would be a better way to go, then you could handle the rear separately, but that's your call. The RSK is just supposed to make them ride better once you get the springs pivoting in the front instead of the rear like they are stock.
All F250's had negatively arched front leaf springs.
On my 1990 F250 they are like that, and are about 1 1/2" away from the bump stops, been like that from the factory. These leafs are so stiff, I don't think they ever hit the bump stops anyways.
They do sell Add-a-leaf kits.
Heres a 1991 F250 Diesel with a Dana 50 front axle and 2 add a leafs. Can you say harsh ride?
You can use a RSK on a TTB, but you need to either fab or buy a drop bracket for the center section. You can buy one from Rough Country or another lift kit company. The add-a-leaf is an option, about $150 for a pair of them.
Sky Manufacturing sells the RSK in either 3" lift or 5" lift. The 3" is supposed to level the suspension on a F350 with a D60 front axle. They also sell a rear shackle flip for pretty cheap that can bring that up 5" I think...
Mine wore out at 120k, I looked into re-arching and found that buynig new was cheaper and easier. I purchased them from www.suspentionking.com after thi instal I picked up the passenger side 1 3/8 and drivers side 1 5/8. around 350.00 and shipping was free.
I found a set of front 96 f250 springs from a powerstroke they seem way netter than mine as I have about a half inch to my bump stops lol their $100 on Craigslist ...going to throw one of my springs in the pak when I install them to make them a lil stiffer....what did you end up going with to fix yours

Just so you know, the F250 springs are much stiffer than the F350 springs because of the extra support the TTB front axle needs. So you might not want to add another leaf to them.
