I live on the Oregon Coast at sea level. I am on the road and in Wyoming. My truck started knocking about Idaho. This happend before under the same circumstances. is this altitude related or summer blend diesel? Is there a additive I can use?
It's coming from the motor sounds like a engine running on cheap diesel... The thing is as soon as I drop below 3000 feet and tank up with some local diesel it goes away?
Does seem altitude related and I think summer blend fuel as well. I can only hear the knockng or tapping at idle. I have been above 6000 feet for a months now. Will be heading home in a few days. I have tried different gas stations with different diesel and it does not make any difference. No way to read fuel pressure. The best I can describe the noise would be like a noisey lifter on a gas engine.
I just sent Dan an e-mail on this I am having the same problem. But mine is at sea level. It starts after warm up on the freeway or about ten miles or so. I've noticed mine before but it goes away after setting awhile. My wife noticed this on vacation and she doesn't notice much on engines. We parked in a parking structure and it was loud with the echo. Keep me posted, I hate it. Mine is e99 I've had since new. I want to fix if I new where to start. Chet
