What's the best diesel fuel additive to put in my truck? I see many different ones at Auto Zone and Advance but are they any good? My truck only gets driven about once a week about 10 miles or so til camping season gets here. Thanks in advance for your advice.
As told to me by a Ford Pwrstrk tech who is the dealerships "diesel tech" - meaning he is the only one that works on their diesels. He explained to me that the 7.3's were designed to burn diesel that contained sulfer- they were not designed to to burn ULSD 'ultra low sulfer diesel'. He uses (and now I do too) wally world 'SuperTech' 2 stroke outboard motor oil- 1 pint to a tank of diesel. All I can say is you'll notice your engine run smoother, so, I've been doing it for over a year now.
For the money, absolutely nothing. If you need to support the economy, pick a snake oil, any snake oil. According to some report I saw, you may get up to 10% more life on your fuel pump. Ask yourself, with all the snake oil you bought and have to carry around and calculate the amount to put in, is it really worth it? I think not. I will admit that ULSD is a boon for the snake oil industry. Helps them peddle their stuff with the fear mongering. They do a good job of separating a rube from his money.

i have heard of some doing this, been thinking about it myself. do a lot of people do this? my buddy works for the international dealer here, and tells me that a lot of the drivers there like the fppf stuff, but the only place i can get it right now is the trucks stop, it is about 9 dollars a pint

Is it worth the hassle and the money for a MAYBE 10% gain in your fuel pump? I don't think so.
Yes, it's worth it. The lubricity & cetane boost in the summer, and that plus anti-gel in the winter make it worth it.
Anti Gel in the winter is a different story. How much the cetane boost really helps I don't know. I have tried them before but noticed nothing in terms of mileage that pays for itself.
a lot of the time i am not sure the quality of fuel i am getting as i work in remote locations, so when i get a chance to add something that might clean the injectors or take water out i am going to. just me, a little piece of mind.
Here's a pic of an injector spring retainer from a buddy of mine's CTD. He put injectors in it last year and doesn't run anything with his fuel. He's now getting another set. Coincidence? Maybe... Maybe not...

How does it explain that I never run anything and got 200+K out of my MB injectors and 100K on the clock of the PSD before I changed them for single shots. BTW, they all tested fine when they came out.
The ancient Chinese used to bang the gong whenever there was an eclipse. It was to frighten away the dragon that was eating the moon up. Seems to work every time. Was proof to them too.
