Spare Tire Mount

Spare Tire Mount
I was thinking of a spare tire mount for a 35 in the bed. I could mount a spare tire carrier to a bed tool box. Maybe some 2x2 or greater rectangular tubes in between to keep the tire off the box. Maybe a steel backing plate to strengthen the box
Anyone have any ideas or insight or seen this done?

I think it would probably work, have to beef up the box a bit like you said. I've seen the kits to mount the tire in the bed, I guess you could adopt it to mount to the box. How stable is the box mounting? Tire that size is heavy. If you can weld it would make it easy to come up with something. Good luck! Post some pics if ya do it.

Just wondered about the mounts, have a couple friends that just have chunk of 2x2 in the front stake pocket and a screw thru the box into the 2x2. Even the "factory" mounts that I got with my tool box are just plastic things that tighten down to the bottom of the bed rail. OK but not super sturdy.If I drive a lot of bumpy logging trails the box can shift a bit.
