I'm getting close to cranking the '64 F100 in my backyard for the first time in six plus years, but I need to change the fluids first. What are the quart levels for oil, transmission and differential for my truck? It's a 223 I6 with a 3 speed tranny. This site rocks. Thanks for the help.
I can't answer your question because I don't have your drivetrain combo, but you can get a '64 truck owner's manual from National Parts Depot for $8.95 (see page 260, current catalog) which will answer that question and lots more. Workshop manuals also available on the same page.
Well I can tell you that if you buy two of those containers (4 quarts I think?) that should do it for the tranny and diff. I used slightly over two (like less than 1/2 quart of the third container) to fill the tranny, transfer case, and both differentials. Mine is a 4x4 with manual transmission/transfercase/two differentials.
Just buy two of those jugs of gear oil and that will do it. You will certainly need more than one and probably most of the second one. I have to fill a transfer case as well as and extra differential, two things you don't have, so you will be fine with two containers.
I know that auto transmission use different oil and more of it, so we really need to know what tranny you have, but for an automatic it used the same oil as the differential.
PS- to check the manual transmission fluid, you have to get under the truck and pull the plug. It should be level with the fill hole.
PPS- get a grease gun and grease every single grease zerk you can find on the chassis/U-joints. It helps more than you might think.
