Adding external trans filter

I'm bout to add my 6.0 cooler and I have read many places where ppl install a magnafine external filter. I have read ppl adding them in the forward line to keep the cooler clean and some in the return line to keep the trans clean. Which one is better?

If you are installing a new cooler I would put the filter in the line from the trans to the cooler. If it is a used cooler I'd put the filter in the line from the cooler to the trans.

Tks. It is used. Came out of an 05 with 60k miles. Fluid was rosy red when we cut the lines. Got it for $55.

And just to clarify, the return line is the one toward te rear of the tranny right??

Sorry to dredge this up from the past but. I had a couple questions on external filters as well. I was thinking of adding a BM Remote Transmission filter kit w/ a WIX 51622 Transmission filter and a Magnefine Forcefield Pre-Filter after my cooler. I know I need to watch my flow rate should I be worried about having to much restriction with what I am looking at or just stick with the normal in-line Magnefine filter after the transmission.

The truck was purchased used w/ 136k miles and a rebuilt ford transmission ( don’t know when but has the ford rebuilt sticker still on it w/ barcode ) and 6.0 cooler already installed w/ a inline Magnefine filter post cooler.
