Good morning fellas, Just got finished with ball joints and axle seals. Got new tires about 500 miles ago and asked the to align it and was told it couldnt be done because I needed ball joints. Just recently got the time to get it done and knowing the seals were also shot did those too. My question is this.... before I did the work, the drivers side had some play. If I grabbed the tire at 3 and 9 and at 12 and 6, I could move it quite a bit. The passenger side was tight. Now That I've completed the repair, I still have just the slightest bit of play in the drivers side. The passenger side is still tight. Although the hub bearings were clean and seamed in good shape, I am guessing they are bad. Can They be replaced ? If so does anyone have a writeup on the procedure ? Thanks in advance!
It is a hub assembly and yes is replaceable. Too bad you didn't know about this when you had it all apart for the ball joints. I'm sure someone has the link saved and can post it on the r&r but changing the ball joints is almost the same steps. Just expensive!
Since you have already had the front end apart several times you may have already taken care of the locking hubs but just in case you haven't... lubricate the locking hubs so that they don't go bad. Guzzle has a great write up on them.
When you do replace your bearing assembly... purchase new studs. They are not easy to remove and in my opinion it's worth the cost to purchase new over the effort to re-use the old ones.
