I would like to know how many miles have some of you gotten out of your hub bearings. I have a 1999 f350 four wheel drive crew srw with 105,000 .They still are tight and quiet. Leaving on a 5000 mile trip soon should I replace before I go? Your input would be appreciated.
I got 158k out of mine and I was in there doing ball joints so I just changed em out while I was in there. I wouldnt worry about them. If your concerned maybe get them and take them along just in case. That way if you have an issue with them ( if your luck is anything like mine) you are prepared.
Mine were at 180K and still going. I replaced my ball joints and bought new hubs while everything was already torn down like racincowboy did. I figured at 180K an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (and another 4 hours of labor) if they died shortly after putting everything back together.
I have read where people pull the ABS sensor out of the hub and sqeeze some grease down there to keep them lubed up.
ive got 280k on mine and checked the 2 days ago there still tight but im getting ready to do ball joints agian and will probbibly do them any way . but you got a lot of miles left (stock tires? no water crossing?) if they are tight and quite i would say no worry take trip.
If you don't have front wheel ABS and are going to be replacing your hubs get the ABS hubs so
you can lube the bearings. The ABS sensor holes can be temporarily plugged between lubing.
Thanks Guys, I have run 315/75/16 tires since 45,000. I do not have abs. When they start making noise, will they run for a while before they fail? I will pick up the parts and carry them with me.THANKS again!!!
