2011 F150 engine choice
I am seeking data/recommendations for engine type in the 2011 F150. I currently pull a 6000 lb trailer with a 2002 F150 with the 4.2L V6 and it seems to struggle alot going up hills, plus it has 150,000 miles on it. I am wondering which engine would best meet my needs between the V6 3.5L Ecoboost, the V6 3.7L FFV and the V8 5.0L FFV.

From the posts here, 3.5L Ecoboost get lot positive raves for power and fuel efficiency combination. I test drove one earlier this summer, and I was VERY impressed with the ECO engine. It's probably the best choice. I believe you can't go wrong with 5.0L as well. Since you're pulling a 6K trailer, I would go either with 3.5L or 5.0L. I tow a 6K travel trailer on my 2002 before trading for a 2007 recently. Wouldn't go less than 5.4L on both generations. Yet, the ECO is brand new design, and I would be somewhat hesitant on investing good $$ on the first year design without bugs being ironed out. 5.0L would be safe bet in my opinion being a stout traditional V8 engine. That's just my conservative opinion.

To get the best answer to your question you need to provide as much info about your situation as possible. When we know how often you tow and how far and the terrain and the type of driving you need the truck to be capable of when not towing we can then suggest the engine and gear ratios that would be best for you. Do you need 4x4 ? Or do you need 2x4 and maybe limited slip? Are you going to lift and put on larger tires? Is your commute at highway speeds? etc... etc... etc...

The 6.2 V8 gets fairly good fuel mileage for its size but I think I would go with a 3.5 Ecoboost. The EB has plenty of Hp and torque and it weighs less than the 6.2 V8. The EB engine weighs 449 lbs. The 6.2 engine weighs out at a hefty 590 lbs. according to this article.
