99 5.4 ECM
I bought a 99 F150 4x4 no motor, no trans. $500 Purchased a 01 5.4 2V, COP, 100R trans from rolled truck, but only got the wiring harness, no ecm - $800. I know 01 is PATS, 99 doesn't have it in the column. Ford can't or won't tell me which ecm will work. They want ME to provide THEM with a part number.
I need a ECM part number for a 99 F150 4X4 Ext Cab, either 70 or 100 trans, non california emissions. Even a VIN and they can look it up for me. I just need either number.
I plan on a custom tune once she's running, and will post back how its all working. This truck is for the deer lease for now, maybe for my 14 yr old when he turns 16, so I got time to fix the little stuff, but would love to have it running for season this year. Thanks for all you guys do here...
To find out, look at the driver door jamb sticker or the VIN through the windshield plate or on the title you should have received to get the truck registered.
Go to a VIN translator up top of this page under articles/specs to see what motor it was.
Next, there should be a sticker on the pasenger side cowl jam that IDs the PCM version but not the part number.
From the VIN, a dealer can go to the FORD data base and tell you what the original build was.
From there I would expect that you could get your new motor outfitted with a workable PCM.
Note that the PCM and harnesses must be for a COP motor and not a coil pack motor.
Note that the PATS is a software item in any PCM program.
What that means is in computer terms a bit is set in a word in the program ID block to tell the PCM to either expect a PATS signal or not and allow the engine to fire.
Here you have the basics that a dealer service dept should know but most do not because they never get into a request like yours or are trained to that level..
Good luck.
What Ford is giving me the run around on, they don't want to sell me a 99 4.6 puter for a 01 5.4 motor. No matter how I present it, they keep asking for a vin, or a part number.
I know there are a few 97-99 5.4l non PATS, with COP, 4x4, extended cab trucks out there. My Frankenstein, isn't that unusual.
If PATS can be disabled, I will buy the 01 ecm, but 3 dealerships have already said no to tuning it out. Where can I get a tune in the Dallas area? with ecm out of the truck? Or is the only way in to buy the ecm, finish my build, then haul it to them? Seems like alot of risk on a $600 ecm that may not work. ( especially since the rest of the truck totals 1300)
From a dealer perspective it all about libility and warrenty.
They have an operating procedure to follow and no one wants to go against it.
Your later motor has coil over plug ignition so needs the PCM to address them.
Just keep searching for that rare PCM. It will show up some place.
I would try contacting some of the tuning vendors on this website by clicking on VENDORS above on the Blue line and see it they can help you.
Good luck.
