c6 vs e40d

well i went to the doctor he in short my gear jaming day are coming to a end due to my knees breaking down so im not going to sell my truck

so that leaves me two choise the built proof c6 or the wireing night where that is the e40d

if i was going to do a c6 it i just get a c6 have it built to the hills and back so it last forever and just get a after market floor shifter but no od and sucky fuel millage

or the e40d the wiring nightmere with gears if i go that rought i get a stand alone controler and such but i know i would need a shifter and such i would probley try to fing a one out of a psd that all ready has the up grades the old redeaming thing the e4od has going for it is the od

I would gladly give up OD and some fuel economy to not have to worry about the TCU in my truck putting my tranny in limp mode cause some stupid fuse blew or some un important wire grounded out. A stand alone TCU such as the Optishift would be good but you're looking at another 600 bucks just for it.

Joe, you being in CA, I actually wouldn't mind an E4OD to much, simple reason.

You have no winter, and hardly any rain. So very small chance of having electrical problems caused by those things.

Here where I am, I wouldn't dare on a E4OD.... especially not for long trips like I do. Better be safe than sorry.

Now your 2 tranny choices will depend on how deep your pockets are. It's gonna be a hellava lot cheaper building up a C6 than an E4OD.....

Then again, with the E4OD you gain OD and abit better mpg. But for the price difference, you'll have to keep your truck a LONG time to catch up on the difference. So it's up to you to figure that one out.

E4OD > C6. C6 is shorter so driveshafts change lengths. Trans x-member moves forward a few inches. Wiring changes from MPLS to the reverse and park/neutral safety switch is fairly minor. TPS on the IP changes to the vacuum unit used on the C6 for the tranny vacuum modulator. Shift linkage on E4OD was cable vs the multi-pivot linkage of the C6. That pretty well sums it up I think.

Joe, E4OD has a lower geared 1st and 2nd gear than a C6. Might be handy if you're going to tow or offroad it ever. Not that my C6 has ever hard a hard time getting going with it's higher 1st/2nd gear heh. But I can't break my rears lose with my LSD. Gotta put some air in the rear brake line I guess lol

Just to add, the shift linkage changed over to cable for the 1992 model year. 1991 and older trucks equipped with E4ODs had a shift linkage almost identical to the C6. The actual shift rod that reaches to the lever on the side of the transmission is longer for the E4OD.

I'm E4OD all the way. Just gotta find time to put mine in! My breakdown goes like this. Do you need your truck to survive an EMP explosion? If yes, C6. If you vote that's not likely needed, go E4OD. Middle of the road being rewire your E4OD control computer to be shielded from EMP's.

The E4OD will survive an EMP. Even without the computer, you can still limp in 2nd, 4th or reverse. More than enough to outrun (or run over) any zombies.

As bad as the reputation may have been in the early years, you can make them as bullet proof as you need. Either pay through your nose to have one made by an outfit like BTS, pay a mid range for a resonable build in the form of a ford dealer transmission (nation wide warranty) or do your homework and build it yourself.

I like C6's but hands down I vote for an E4OD with an aftermarket controller and be done with it!

My left knee is at 35% and my right knee is at 40%! It is painful some days!

I have no problem with the e4od itself, its the computer I hate. I need to just fork over the dough for an after market controller and shut up about it! Lol
