I have a 460 gas that needs a oil drain rethread kit for a bad bolt. It is tight and don't leak. I do need and oil change however. Is there a way to get the old oil out in the meantime till i get a new pan or bolt rethread? Can you siphon it out anywhere?
I'd try running a tap through the threads first. It's just a fine thread 1/2 or 7/16 not sure ? Usually the plug strips and the threads can be saved, worth a try.
There are kits that siphon oil out thru the dipstick. I think I see them on occassion in the JC Whitney catalog. Or maybe a chain store might have them.
Or maybe one of those electric drill driven pumps attached to a hose?
Never used either to drain oil but I guess at least the JC Whitney kit works.
I don't know what year 460 you have but my '87 has a metric drain plug, 14mm thread, the same as most spark plugs.
I just got through replacing my leaky, wobbly drain plug with a 1st oversized one from the Dorman rack at my local autoparts store, #65217.
I'm sure I have spent more than the $3.95 it cost in oil just topping it up from the leak.
