Hello all. I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping I can get a little guidance with some stuff I need. I just bought this nice old 69 Ford F100 Ranger and have decided to fix it up to daily driver status. Not sure what came over me. I've been working on european cars for 30 years and just decided I wanted a truck like my dad had when I was a teenager. No air, no power steering, manual column shift. Man this thing is great. I can make a Subaru out of the metal in the hood. So far I've been busy pulling trim and grinding on rusty places but I need parts and being an auto tech I know how bad finding the right parts can sometimes be. It's the only part of this process I fear. So let me ask for help in the 2 most pressing areas on this old truck. It has a 360 in it with a RAT G1 behind it. 2nd. gear synchro is gone and the out put bearing is shot. I need a good gearbox or a rebuild kit. Any good sources for either of these? Next,.. the stock Holley carb leaks fuel badly when shut off. I need a good reliable source for a rebuild kit for old carbs like this. Thanks in advance for any advice and again,.... Howdy!
Fear not You'll get all the help you'll need here on FTE.
RAT (HEB, HEC, HED, HEF, RAN and etc): Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh transmission.
Basically the same 3.03 all syncro trans was used in misc 1963/80 Passenger Cars, 1963/86 trucks, 1965/87 Econolines, 1966/77 Bronco's, so parts can readily be bought at autoparts stores.
NAPA or an indie parts store would be the best sources. The brass syncro blocker rings were also used in the Ford top loader 4 speed.
There is one blocker ring on 1st gear syncro, 2 on 2nd/3rd gear syncro. These are specific to the syncros, so all 3 aren't the same.
The front/rear bearings are EZ to get, since they have BIN's = Bearing Industry Numbers stamped on them. BIN's are used by parts stores/bearing shops.

No Holley carb was used on these trucks "as original." The last Holley 2V was used on 1962's with 292's.
A 1969 F100/350 360/390 would have "as original" a 2100 series 2V Auto-Lite/Motorcraft carb / 2100 series: 1963/74 V8 Passenger Cars/Trucks, 1966/74 Bronco's, 1969/74 Econolines.
No 4V was offered in F100/350's with FE engines (352/360/390 and etc) until 1974, and then with 390's only...as an option.
Most peeps swap a 4V carb/intake manifold from a 1965/69 390 Passenger Car.
The 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com for 22 bucks.
Hi there, needs a little advice to... Have a '72 Bumpsides F250 and parts for em in my corner is hard esp for the Bumpsides... Question is, will a 73-79 Dentsides bonnet fit my model?
There are FTE sponsors that have parts for the 67-72's like National Parts Depot. There are also some other companies out there that are not sponsors. Some "others" I would rather not mention and one that comes to mind is Dennis Carpenter. They have a lot of the old Ford toolings and recreate many parts. They also sell there parts to "other" vendors that turn around and sell to the general public.
As for carb kits. Most auto-part stores should have them, or have access to them. You just need the carb number for them to reference. I typically do not go to the large chains like Pep Boys and Autozone although I got a great deal for the F250 front calipers at one of them. I found out that finding a rebuild shop for carbs is getting harder and harder. The local guy here isn't even at the shop ever day and had you drop the carb in a box at the shop and he will pick up and repair when he gets by the shop to check the box. I've rebuild 2 carbs myself since I found that out.
If you can't find your trans rebuild kit or parts at the store it can't hurt to ask for parts at a trans shop.
There have been people that took a '73-'79 hood and put it on a '67-'72 but they also had to use the '73-'79 hinges and move the mounting to the outside of the inner fenders. Basically match the mounting of the '73-'79.
Carb rebuild shop that's been in business for decades: North Hollywood (CA) Carburetor & Ignition.
The 2100 series Auto-Lite/Motorcraft 2V carb kit is the same for ALL 1962/74 Passenger Cars/Trucks, 1966/74 Bronco's and 1969/74 Econolines, so is EZ to find, and it's still available from Ford:
Well thanks for the advise. I talked to my Snap On dealer who is a old car guy himself today and got some good local leads. Man this is going to be a detective story tracking down these old parts. Should be fun. NumberDummy and 7283-F250 are some of the forum dudes here. NumberDummy is possibly King Sage. Not sure where I got the idea the Holley was original on this truck but after going back over all my previous searches I found nothing supporting it as original on this truck. Thanks. So far the only source I can vouche for is LMC. Put a windown lift assy. in from them that was made in Taiwan but was exactly like the one being replaced. I'm hoping for something like them for engine, trans. and differential components. I'm wanting to put this thing back totally stock but the idea of going rogue custom is appealing too. Hmmmm.
Well after reading a few more threads around here I'm not sure LMC is quite so always wonderful as I thought. Sounds a little hit and miss.
Why buy mechanical parts from LMC when you can buy them from your fav-o-rite autoparts store, possibly at a discount, since you've been working on foreign cars for 30 years.
All LMC will do after you place your order is...buy the parts from their fav-o-rite autoparts store...with your money, then ship 'em, and there will be shipping charges...too.
And...if any of the parts are wrong, you'll have to go thru the rigamarol of shipping them back...at your expense.
Yep you are correct oh wise one. I will venture into my local parts centers for as many of my mechanical needs as possible. I've actually been making offers on several donor trucks all night long. Been thinking about getting a sand blasted old truck parts service going. Lots of broken dream projects around for pennies thanks to the 'new economy'. So many people that just come out and say "I lost my job, need cash". Damn.
Contact FTE member Phil105 (I just sent you his email address). He owns a minty '70/72 short bed Styleside (I can't recall the exact year), lives in Thomson GA.
Will give your sources for mechanical parts not sold by repro parts sellers.
Thanks bro. You remembering those part numbers from memory? I knew a guy like that in Savannah years ago. Just knew his stuff. Helped us "mechanics" make a living.
