Brake Spring Question

Here is the brake adjusting screw springs that are in question. This is my first attempt on replacing the rear drum brakes on my 66 F100. The new one doesn't match the one I pulled off. To me it doesn't look like it would work unless I bent the hook. Can I do this? Or does it compromise the spring? I guess I could reuse the old one, but I would rather not.

thanks
scott

Posting pic of rear brake assembly; may, or may not help!!. From the pic it would appear the replacement spring should work but difficult to determine from looking at the direction of the hooks. Over past 40 yrs. replaced the rears on more than 1 occasion and if the spring did not set into the hole to my satisfaction IMO don't see problem slightly bending the spring to fit, or perhaps loop the spring from the backside. Primarily concerned the spring is secure with no posibility the ends working out while maintaining tension. It will be interesting to get other members opinion.

Replacement spring should work, just put in the hole and twist it.

Incorrect spring

Using the incorrect spring surely may change the way the self adjuster works, or maybe not, but I would use the old correct one before bending the wrong one. Like anything metal, once bent, it is changed forever.
I came across the same problem and ordered 4 of them from obsolete and classic auto parts in OK city OK. that is the price that carpenter charges for one $12. total.
Page 28 in this catalog. Many of Their parts are very reasonable. Not pictured in ad.

Looks like the one from dennis carpenter is that same

I found a picture of DC's spring.

looks to be the same as the spring that came in my kit. Still different than what was on my truck. I guess I will try to convince the one I have to fit the job.

thanks
