Emergency Brake
The emergency brake on my '56 F100 needs some work and I need some advice. The spring that holds the pawl to the gear must be broken since the pawl is loose. The spring in the handle is intact. How do you get inside the handle, the rivets which hold it together don't have an obvious way to come off without cutting them off. How is the spring arranged with the pawl and where can I get a new one. All of the usual parts stores that I have contacted don't have that spring, they carry the handle spring only. Thanks

seawulff, see if you can locate a used assembly. If not then I would drill out the rivets and see what is wrong. You maybe able to find a spring to make it work or find out that something else is out of place. When working on old trucks sometimes one has to improvise.
