Anyone know where I could get a nice set of dog dish style hubcaps for the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks? They came stock from the late 70s all the way through '97... Anyone know the part #'s or have any they want to sell? The rears are taller than the fronts to clear the hub....

What style are you looking for? There were several. There was also 4x4 and 4x2 variants with holes cut in the fronts.
Be aware that those Hub Caps shown above, "TYPE 3" in the parts books, were not used on the F-250/F-350 and E-250/E-350 before 1985.
"Type 5" was the one used 1978-1984 F-250/F-350 exclusively.
1985-up both "Type 3" and "Type 5" were used on F-250/F-350.
Before 1985 "Type 3" was used on the F-100/F-150 or bronco From 1977-1984 exclusively.
Here is a picture of "TYPE 5" on a 1978 Explorer.
Hmmm, I realize this is an old post, but I was searching for 'hubcaps' to fit my F250 and I came across this post. I also realize this is the 7th gen area, but the last poster stated something that (from my searching) I'm not sure is correct. Since he referenced a 6th gen Truck, I thought 'maybe' it's fair game to jump in
If you search the ford brochures from 1979 and 1978, no where in those documents is this 'so called' TYPE 5 hubcap shown. All the trucks show hubcaps of various styles (including the 'type 3' that is referenced above by IDIDiesel John). But none show this 'ranger stye' cap that is pictured.
my 2 cents (for what it's worth)
Oh yeah... my F250 is a 1978. Now back to the 6th gen forum I go.
I my self have seen those type 5 hubcaps on 70's trucks. Once that was recently for sale near my, a 77 F350 4 speed camper special (beautiful clean red interior) had those hubcaps on it.
I know the last year for those hubcaps was 1985, and only on F250/F350's. My '85 van has those type 5 hubcaps as well, and I got a spare one from a 78 F250 in the junkyard cause one of mine was damaged.

Type 5 is "so called" by Ford Motor Company. The parts book shows a picture of it as well. It's not listed as type 5 in any brochure and literature other than in the Parts book.
Just because the brochure doesn't show it does not mean it didn't exist. Standard equipment seldom is and yes there are standard equipment Dog dish caps for both F-100/F-150 and F-250/F-350 4x2s...
Chris may come around and post a picture of the Hubcap section from the parts book of the relevent caps.
By the way, the 1981 F-series Pickup Brochure shows a Truck with type 5's on page 11. This cap is not mentioned in the options section either.

There were no Type 3's installed on F-250 or higher, or installed on 4x4s before 1985.
If you have type 3's on your 1978, they are not year correct for a F-250 of that year.
Type 5's are year correct for a F-250/F-350/Econoline 250/350 etc... 1977-1984 exclusively.
Type 3's and 5's are year correct for a F-250/F-350/Econoline 250/350 etc... 1985 to at least 1989.
Does not mean they will not fit or work, they are just not "year" correct.
Now if your 1978 truck was a F-100 or F-150, then type 3's would be year correct.
The reason why this is, is there are three different sized type 3's. One that fits the Half ton 15" wheels, that first came out in 1978, and two that fits the F-250/F-350s that first came out in 1985. One for semi floater and one for heavy duty floating rear axles. A half ton dog dish will not fit a F-250/F-350 wheel. There are a few wheel covers that will fit all F-100/F-350 with a adapter ring, but not so for the dog dish caps.
