First time Powerstroke owner. Any tips?
I can do anything on the 4.6/5.4/V10 engines or the older IDI diesels, but I have never touched a PSD. Any tips? Anything to watch out for?
The truck gets picked up the day after tommorow and I will know more then.
Thanks

Hey brother, you really have a gold mine of great info here! Especially like the personalized website on everything you've done to your truck.
Question: you provided a 96 Bronco/F-Series workshop manual, but do you also have access to 97 F-series manual? That was actually the last year that Ford used the OBS with the F-250 and it's still an important book on my shelf (ie-- the Haynes Manual).
Thanks in advance for whatever other 'nuggets' you can provide!

The best nugget I can provide is this site. If it were not for this site, I would've got rid of my truck LONG ago.

But lets not get into that.

If I do keep it, what are the best mods as far as power gained/money spent?
How much will a chip on a stock truck really gain me?
Some claim as much as 140 RWHP on an other wise stock truck and I don't buy it.

Welcome Bill!As far as the power gains with a chip, 140 is a little inflated, even for a SD truck, on yours, a chip will get you about 60-65 HP.
PM on its way to you.

Besides those my favorites are the Stage I injectors (160cc) from Jim at Rosewood Diesel Shop and a chip from PHP.
You won't see 140hp increase with a stock OBS (older but superior) truck. The stock injectors are too small. If you do intake and exhaust you might see a 75hp increase with a chip.
If you upgrade to the Stage I 160cc injectors you can get the full 140hp that the chip companies claim, but not with the canned tunes from Bullydog, Banks, or TS. Get good tunes from PHP, DP Tuner, TW, Gearhead, Beans, etc. and you'll have a great running truck with more power, better driveability, and better MPG.
And if you get into chips and stuff get gauges to monitor EGT, trans temp, and boost. Don't want the EGT over 1200* for any extended period or you could melt injectors...
Good luck with the new Stroke!

Man, I wish you'd quit showing that picture. It just makes me cringe every time I think about it! I guess it's better to keep it from happening again though....

By the way, welcome to the dark side Bill! I think you will find that once you get some diesel on your hands, it gets into your blood and you're never quite the same again.
LOL
