My 76 has a 351w that didn't come with the truck? My question is does anyone know how many quarts of oil those took? I put five in it and it is alittle bit over. I thought all these old motors took at least 5 quarts?
lol I have no idea what is up. It has a double hump oil pan so maybe the oil reads diff on the dipstick. Maybe it is not the right pan for the motor? I have just been putting 5 quarts in it and leaving it read alittle high. That is the prob with buying a truck that someone had alread tore into I guess. I have redone nearly everything but the motor because she runs so good.
Well, i have a chilton that covers 76-86 and it says that all engines in those years took 6 quarts(except diesel). I have a 390 in my 76(not original) and i have the same problem. i put in 6 quarts and it reads high. Im not too concerned about it though. when i redo the engine ill make sure everything is seated right and all that because i think the dipstick might just be seated wrong or something. Maybe drop your pan and check everything out if it still bothers you.
