What are you using or like. Looking for one to cover the 5er hitch, sandbags in winter etc.
I do plan on getting a Back Rack or similar also, it would be nice if they fit at the same time.
Thanks.
I have an 08 F350 lb. I searched a lot of covers as I also wanted to cover my fifth wheel. I got a four piece flip cover. Locks on both ends. At the front near the cab I have my tool box. It is a v shaped box for fifth wheels. Didn't like it at the rear so I put it up front and put the flip cover on it.
It has been on a couple of winters here in se Michigan and no problems. Carries the weight of snow with no problem. Any other questions just ask...
I have an older pace edwards aluminum jackrabbit, I love the thing. I am in it 5 to 6 times a day for the last 6 years and it is holding up great. I also live in an extreme climate environment....100+ in the summer and -15 in the winter (occasionally) and it hasn't let me down yet.
I have a 10 year old Retrax on my truck. Well engineered - still rolls smoothly - looks nice, keeps things dry. The locking mechanism isn't the best if you're trying to lock it partially open, but I know they have made improvements since this one was made. The polycarbonate plastic top surface still has no cracks and looks good. The housing that contains the rolled-up top is fairly flimsy sheet metal, but I just put a cargo holding rod in front of it, and that protects it.
I have the 3 section flip. I wish I had the one that opened front and rear, then I could keep my tool box up there too. Or the roll-up. But what I have works great and looks good. And it was what I could afford at the time.
My truck had a Roll N Lock cover on it when I bought it. Not sure how long it has been on the truck, but it seems to have held up nicely. I just spray some 303 Protectant on it from time to time. Extra bonus is that it also locks the tailgate though my tailgate has a factory lock on it. Pricey, though I looked it up online after I got the truck and found out it runs $1300 plus installation for an 8 foot bed.
I've got the Retrax, and I like it. I had to replace the rolling cover part because it broke, and they made some improvement to the new one. The new one seems fine. I got it because I wanted to be able to use my fiver hitch, and then cover the bed and lock it when at a campsite. It works great for that. When the fiver is hitched up, I can pull the cover back to where it is almost touching the pinbox, then lock it down and the stuff in the front of the bed is still covered and out of sight.
If you have a fiver, the flip style will probably prevent you from seeing your hitch while you are trying to back up to the pin.
I had the JackRabbit on my '06. It worked great, covered the fiver hitch and locked. The only thing I didn't like was that d&^$ strap. Open the cover, throw some stuff in the bed, and then dig the strap out from under everything so you could close the cover.
For the '11, I've got a Roll 'n Lock electric cover. Works great, covers the fiver hitch and locks with the motor (there's a manual disconnect inside the bed). It's got a key fob for open/close and interior bed light.
Not sure what the Back Rack is, but both of these have rails that leave the forward bed post holes clear. The bed tapers to the back on both trucks, and the rear bed post holes are about1/3 covered by the bed cover rails.
