What's going on y'all? I've got my day cut out tomorrow. I get to drop a transfer case and a 700r4 out of a 1988 Chevy K2500. Joy. To top it off, I'm going to take the 700r4 apart in an attempt to rebuild it. I believe I've got a busted planetary gear set and worn out clutches. Freaking Chevys. I wish I could get an AOD in there somehow
Like a rock with old Ford stock. lol

Well, didn't get to drop the tranny that day....no tranny jack makes for an awkward job. So I"m forced to wait untill I get one. I have found some nifty upgrades for it though during the wait....5 pinion planetary gear sets?! Awesome. Still rather have the AOD any day though!!!

If your trying to remove a tranny while on jack stands height; we use my old motorcycle lift as a transmission jack; works great; espescially with all four wheels that swivel,
Just a thought.

Well, the trans jacks were cheaper. And $200 at Northern Tool wasn't cheap!
And I picked up a $150 3-ton garage jack with almost a 20" of lift for $100. I guess that makes them my first tool "investments" of my new career!!
Worked on the Chevy today and got the 700R4 and transfer case all ready to drop except 4 bell housing bolts. Ran out of daylight. I think a good LED or florescent drop light is next on the investment list...Anyone wanna get them bell-housing bolts for me?? lol

There's a nice warehouse store on Old Nashville Hwy in Murfreesboro that's had some great LED automotive drop style lights, some are rechargeable from a cigarette outlet VIA a long cord, enough to use outside while charging.

Check at Harbor Freight for the lights or even craigslist. They are both good for cheap tools

Man its been a minute!! Its out and tore completely down. All my parts only cost me $364!! Thats a master kit with all seals, clutch packs, gaskets, and other soft parts, the "beast" sun gear shell, oversized carbon lined OD band, corvette OD band servo, a Raybestos 3-4 clutch upgrade called the Z-Pack, new reverse drum, and new rear sun gear, rear planetary carrier and rear output ring gear. All I need to buy still is a new torque converter and main line pressure and reverse boost valves which is about $150 more, if that. Maybe this stupid Chevy can stand a chance of competing with a Ford now. lol.

Check rockauto.com for your parts. They are usually half the price of the parts house.

I've been really busy but just to update the Chevy is done and the transmission is a monster!! I just gotta do ball joints and a driver side hub and she'll be off-road worthy. Also so far I've made straight A's at NADC and still going strong. I got myself a scope for my old 1907 7mm Mauser so bring on gun deer season this weekend!!!! So how is middle Tennessee doing recently?

The Confederate, I am glad to here that you are doing so well at school and that you have been able to make some progress on your truck project as well. I have not been on here as much myself lately as I am trying to find a better job.

NADC is where my old 65 F100 was painted back in 04-05; good school very busy. Sister-in-law use to be the dorm director.
Glad to here ya making straight A's. Confederate what part of the school's program are you taking?
