Recommended tires?

I've pushed my factory issued Wrangler RT/S tires to the end. I'm starting to have a nice "whoomp-whoomp" noise that increases in intensity with speed along with steering wheel shake over 70 mph. In summary, my tires are at their end...

Since they don't make the RT/S anymore, and I liked them, it looks like the Wrangler AT/S is the most similar tire on the market.

However, I'm open to suggestions because I don't know what type of tire I want. In summary, the truck sees pavement 95% of the time. I hunt in the fall and winter so the truck occasionally ventures off pavement to fields or dirt/rocky roads. But, nothing serious.

If you want a decent riding and comfortable all-season tire, I suggest looking at the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country. I needed tires suddenly a few years ago after noticing a huge split in my one sidewall. I called around to a few places, but nobody had anything in stock which suited my needs. Finally, I found an NTB and they recommended the Uniroyals. I checked them out online and liked what I saw. 50,000+ miles later and they still have quite a bit of tread left. They come with a 60k mile treadwear warranty and were very nicely priced. Awesome in the rain, quiet on the highway. Snow traction isn't bad either.

I agree on the Uniroyal cc's, they are what were on my expy when I bought it, and I have no complaints at all. They will be getting replaced with Nitto Terra Grapplers as soon as I wear the out the damn Uniroyals.

Thanks for the recommendations on tires, but I actually had new tires installed tonight. Local Firestone dealer had a set of the Destination AT, with everything included along with road hazard warranty, for $672. After receiving quotes all day long and prices ranging from the $600s to over $1100, this tire was what I wanted: a similar replacement to the Wranglers.

So far, the ride quality is excellent and road noise is very, very low. However, I'm not a tire pro and I'm comparing these new tires to my worn out RT/S tires so I'm sure just about anything will sound, feel, and ride better. As of right now, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Picture link if anyone wants to know what the tire looks like: http://www.outlettire.com/images/Fir..._at_tire_l.jpg

Nice tires! I recently replaced my Goodyears with Michelins LTX and regret not doing it years ago. They cost a little more, but the quality is obvious and the ride superb. Others posting here have also had good experience with Michelins, but you need to go with what fits your needs and budget.

Happy trails!

I bought the same tires for my 03 in December in size 285/70R17. Good ride and wet performance. But after 5,000 miles, I have zero confidence that they will make it to the 50,000 mile tread warranty. I'm noticing wear characteristics similar to my last set of Revo's that only lasted 25,000 miles and it was a 50,000 mile tire too.

It's funny you mention this because the person who sold me the tire mentioned rotating the tire frequently. He is running the same ones on his truck said that you must rotate the tires every 6k to help keep the wear even. I have free tire rotation so I plan on having them do this every 5k - or when I do my oil changes to keep things simple.

Regular tire rotation is a must to maximize miles, along with correcting any alignment and balancing issues. I did all of this with my Revo's and they rode great and wore evenly all the way down to the wear indicators, but they only lasted 25,000 miles.

I have used 2 sets bridstone dueler at reveos on my Expedition 4wd since for the last 80000 miles. They have gotten us through many wisconsin snow storms even when they where down to the wear bar. Last septmeber i put on a set of Destination AT for my F150 4x4 and have not had any problems. Now i have the front end allingned ever 2 years and rotate my tire evey other oil change. it really makes a difference. on my excursion i run micheline xlt e loads and they are poor tires for deep winter snow but i have 70000 on them they just will not wear out!
