I am picking up the new KR dually on Monday. It comes with Michelin LTX AT2, 245/75R/17 tires. When negotiating my deal I forgot to bring up the tires. I am thinking I would prefer a highway tread tire, all season, since the truck will only see a non paved road in some of the campgrounds we frequent. My current truck came with Michelin MS2's and they have worn well and are quiet. I did call the dealer this morning and they offered to sell me a new set of whatever I want for their cost but will not take the old ones in trade.
I am rethinking this and am now considering just the leaving the tires on it. They seem to be really common on the Fords so wondering what others experience with them has been. Are they good highway tires, I mean quietness and handling characteristics? I usually have a 15.5K fifth wheel behind us if that makes any difference.
I like my AT2 tires just fine. I'm not sure that I like them better than MS tires, but they are very quiet and seem to do everything fairly well. Only complaint I've heard about them is that they aren't that good on ice. Not an issue for me though.
So far so good with mine...more of a highway design anyway compared to the Toyo and BFG AT's I've had in the past. Excellent traction in the rain and a quiet smooth ride. I tow a heavy toyhauler myself that grosses out at 16K pounds.
More like a hybrid type AT/Hwy tire to me but I like 'em!!
The Michelin Defender LTX is a superb tire that is highly rated. I just ordered a new set and I have run them before. I was telling my local tire guy about them last year and how much they are liked. Well just 2 weeks ago he went to a tire testing event down in Utah. He was blown away at well they performed. They look more like a hwy tire but held up to the offroad abuse and had better than anticipated traction. Their winter traction is also excellent, probably the best tire I have run on a SD in the ice/snow.

Every single time I introduce someone to Michelin tires this sort of thing happens. The ONLY time my vehicles do not have Michelins on them is when I take delivery because the dealers do not want to switch and I am always trying to save $
Those tires are great. My usage habits are similar to yours except for summer vacations in the mountains. Great all around ride and quiet. My truck came with the Goodyear Kevlars (18 inch wheels) and I plan on going to the Michelin AT2s when I wear these out.
