Hi guys, Just boughht a 2000 X with the V-10 with about 6?????, I say this because they lifted it and never recalicrated the speedo. Ive read some things about the V-10 bad and good, any idea what percentage of 2000 V-10's actually had the spark plug spit out issues and the exhaust bolt issue. Just wondering if I shuold be worried or not?
You likely have at least one exhaust manifold bolt cracked by now. If not, it would be pretty surprising. If you do not hear any exhaust leak, then I would not worry about it. It is more of an annoyance than anything.
As for the spark plugs, as long as the plugs haven't been changed, you have less chance of them blowing out (your mileage listed seems to indicate less than 70k miles?). It is typically a result of improper torque on the plugs. If you plan to change them, make sure you torque them properly, and you should be fine.
My brother purchased a 2001 with about 160k on the clock, and someone had replaced the plugs prior to his purchase. It took about 2 years, but 3 plugs ended up blowing out, due to improper torque on the plugs.
Thx for the welcome, not to be argumentative, but I heard the V-10's spark plug issue was more due to the lack of threads than the torque, but doesnt really matter at this point not like Fords that great at backing up their products anyway. I hate to say that, Ive been a Ford guy for years, but Lately their leaving people high and dry pretty often. Anyway Im looking for a set of gears for the X. Its one of the only things I havent researched, I know with the 37's Im going with 4.88's. I havent paid attention to the rears since I blew up my Mark VIII. Any info on this subject would be helpful, thx
