Got about 42k on my '01 F350 V10. Everything seems to be running ok but after hearing about V10 blowing plugs I'm concerned. Seems to me that with 10 cylinders, it might be hard to tell if one is not working. Am I worrying about nothing??? I'm a klutz when it comes to mechanical stuff so I'll have to have my mechanic do it. Any input/info from anybody? Thanks in advance.
You can check the torque and make sure they are tight. Seems most people on here recommend torquing the plugs to 168 in. lbs. or 14 ft. lbs. The only difficulty is getting to the back ones. If you plan to take them out to inspect them, search for removal instructions in this forum. As for the spark plug blow-out, some said they heard a sound like an exhaust leak or smelled gas before the plug blew out. With such low mileage, I would just check the torque and not remove them.
I agree with Dwinn. Just check to make sure they are torqued correctly. The scheduled maintenance is 60,000 miles. You can never be to cautious with a problem like that. Good Luck!

you'd know it if you had a plug out, don't worry about it. I'm guessing you have a better chance of being hit by lightning than having a plug blow out.
Wonder if that includes the '02-'04 as well? Also, is this a "normal" schedule or the "severe" schedule? Or does it matter?
Thanks!

Looked up the info from the "My Owners website" from FORD. The recommended spark plug change is at 100,000 miles. So...only 12,000 miles and I am ready for a plug change.
Well I thought I needed to change my plugs, so I started with the hardest one to get at and after 1+ HOURS I got it out and holy crap, they are brand new Bosch 2 prong plugs. Lucky me! Why didn't I start with an easy one?????

That is a good point. Start with the easiest plug first (inspect)...then move to the hardest and work backwards (hard to easy). I will keep that in mind when it comes time for a plug change.
just bought 2001 3/4 ton super duty with v10, a buddy at work the next day told me the heads are aluminum and they are famous for blowing plugs out! scared to drive, looking for reassurance.
