remote door locks

The power door locks on my 99 work sometimes and don't sometimes. The first time I push the remote unlock button it might unlock the driver's door, the second time I push it it tries to unlock the passenger side but the **** only moves just a bit, not enough to unlock it. I find the more times I push the button the less activity I get from the door lock actuators. The same goes for the locking process.
Thinking the remote is at fault I push the lock button on the door itself and get much the same results.
Is there a relay that could be going bad or am I having a ground issue maybe? Surely both door actuators aren't going bad at the same time.
The truck's battery is fully charged by the way.

Have you isolated it so the drivers door is always the one that is not working.? whether you use the remote or the door button?

Both doors respond in the same manner. I can push the door lock on the pass door and both door's locks may move once or twice then stop. Since both sides are affected the same is why I wonder if it's a power or ground prob.

if all the doors work the same way from any switch/ remote. I would go check the relay

Kinda sounds like the lockmotor thermister value has increased over time & is dropping the opeating voltage to the lock motor, a commom problem & a simple fix can be had if your willing to do some reading, disassembly & repair.

After you do one & learn the moves, the other isn't so bad.

Be aware that the fix requires shorting the current limiting thermister out, so that puts full operating voltage on & allows the lock motor to draw whatever current it wants, so if you have young kids, or grand kids that like to push & hold buttons down, they might melt the lock motor!!!!

Anyway if you think this may be your problem & decide to tear into things, I have another link with photos that ma be helpful too.

Well now after reading for a couple of hours I believe that's my problem too Pawpaw.
I'm all for free fixes but with mine being 11 yrs old I'm thinking since I have to go in there why not put a new one in and maybe not have to go back in again.
Can the actuator itself be bought without the door latch mechanism or does it all come together? Ford only parts?
Thanks for your help.

Here is a link to a post I made on the Taurus forum some time back in which we were talking about the electric door lock fix. The other site I posted a link too there at the bottom of the post, took it's fix que from the FTE link I posted above, but their photos may be an assist in taking things apart & installing the reworked motors, or installing new lock actuators.
Broken Door Locks - Pictures Of Rusted Actuator - Taurus Car Club of America

I just did a quick search for Ranger electric door lock actuators & found a pair of actuators for about $55, so your idea to just install new ones now makes sense, as the they were about $150 a pair I believe it was back then.

So it seems we can now buy just an after market actuator for less than $30 ea, or a pair, one for the drivers side & one for the passenger side, for about $55, but I don't know how good they are.

The OEM ones aren't anyhing to brag about though, so maybe the less expensive ones are just as good, or bad, depending o how one thinks about it!!!! lol

Anyway maybe consider keeping the old ones to fix & sell on EBAY, to help off set the cost of new ones!!!!

More thoughts for consideration.
Let us know how it goes.
