Hey guys -- Just bought a new-to-me 1993 F-250. Truck is fairly solid (esp since I only paid $500.)
Previous owner told me that the tranny was rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago. It shifts and runs fine... doesn't slip... except that in order to shift into reverse I have to rev the engine up a little bit before it will kick down. It's a 5.8 w/ an auto tranny.
The lever moves just fine into the reverse position, but the gears don't engage.
Is this a sign of a serious problem or something that I should just deal with or something I can easily fix?
Screwed that one up.... I checked it without the engine running and it appeared good. Checked it again with it running and it's looking low. Do I just add to the dipstick tube?? That's odd....
Truck sitting level, engine at operating temperature and running at idle, transmission in Park. Check fluid level on dipstick. If low add a little ATF at a time through the dipstick tube until up to full mark on dipstick. Do not overfill. Use ATF Dexton3/Mercron fluid.
