95 aerostar reverse problems

My 95 aerostar will only go in reverse when the vehicle is cold. Once it has run for awhile, reverse no longer engages. I have replaced the filter and fluid. Any suggestions?

Perhaps your vacuum hose is disconnected.

Did this happen before you replaced the fluid/filter or after? Most of the problems with A4LD transmission originate from low fluid levels - it is very sensitive to proper levels. That said, the dipstick arrangement on these transmissions make it very difficult to add fluid and then read the stick. Residual fluid in the tube continues to run down the stick, obscuring a proper reading. Warm the engine and read the stick with the engine running. If you are below either of the two indicator holes on the stick, add one pint of fluid and recheck after one hour. This gives the fluid time to drain out of the dipstick tube.

The fact that it operates 'properly' once warmed sounds like a marginally low level.

The problem was before the fluid/filter replacement. It only operates in reverse when it is cold, though.
