Break-out box question

I'm in need of a Break-out box to isolate an intermittent miss. I'm wondering if anyone has an idea for an inexpensive alternative to the expensive commercial units?

I am looking for something I can isolate one injector at a time with.

I am thinking about building a break-out box to plug in right at the valve covers and then have 8 switches mounted in a box that I could isolate each injector one at a time. Do you think that would be possible?

The difficult thing is going to be pinpointing your issue, since it only happens while you are driving the truck. If it were missing all the time this could easily be accomplished by pulling the VC's and unplugging the injectors one at a time. You can also look at the poppets to see which one isn't spurting oil to determine which injector is missing, but there again, it has to be missing all the time in order for you to pinpoint the issue.

What about running a buzz test? That may help you identify an injector with a weak solenoid. Jim is going to be the expert on this one, so I would ask him whether this would help as opposed to using a break out box. The thing is, even with a break out box, it is going to be really tough to isolate this weak injector since it only misses intermittently. Unless, that is, you can make it do it consistently. Then I can see where a break out box might be of some value.

Mike, how did you determine the TPS was bad?

Wmiller, thanks for that link. I'm gonna check it out.

I have some Aeroforces Gauges in stock.
Though I don't see how that would help Tim.

I suggested that Tim make or borrow a break-out box.
He seems to be able to replicate the miss, and I really think shutting the injectors off one at a time while it's missing will help narrow down his issues.

Is your problem similiar to this?

‪1995 73L Powerstroke‬‏ - YouTube

He ended up replacing the IPR and it fixed it. Some people commented that have similiar problems, might find a solution.

Apologies to the OP for the

My CC will shut itself off for no apparent reason. I've had the CC recall procedure completed, but still have the problem of CC shutoff by itself.

Is the TPS replacable or do I have to buy an entire pedal assembly to get it?

I have some PDF files that detail making one that hooks into the large connector just over the drivers side valve cover. Its pretty involved by getting the correct connectors at a salvage yard. There are many fords that use that same large connector so that is not very difficult. Let me know if you want them.

Thanks guys,

Tim, I sent you a PM

Chase, Thanks for the link, nice write up but I couldn't get the pdf links to work. P.S. I am headed up to Cub lake on the dirt bike this coming weekend.

Ford4Life7.3, No it doesn't sound like that.

Craig, No problem on the Hi-Jack. I'll check it out, it can't hurt to try.
