Looking to replace the standard type mirrors on my 02 EX 7.3 Ultimate. I need to pull a 25 foot Airstream and these original not "trailer extendable" mirrors won't cut it. I belive, but could use some help that I should be about to swap out with the heated/power extendable mirrors, correct? Are they basically plug and play? If so, how do folks like them for towing? My biggest complaint from towing with aftermarket mirrors is it's hard to see the tail of your trailer and what is going on back there. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if I'm correct and I can swap them out for pwr/heated/ext mirrors where's a good place to find them?
Also, anyone tried mounting a camera on the back of the trailer with a monitor in the cab? Might be spendy.
Trailer tow mirrors are a direct bolt-on. If your current mirrors are power/heated, then the trailer tow mirrors (if equipped with power/heat) will also work. I have not used mine to tow yet, but they appear adequate. I came from the Dodge world, and I really liked their flip-out tow mirrors. They extend out further than the Ford tow mirrors.
If you check out RV dot net, there are a few who have done the camera mounting on their trailer, for either the rear or for hitching.
Thanks...I"ve also seen the Dodge mirrors and like the way they fold down and out. Gives you more area to see behind your tow vehicle. I know the existing mirrors are power and heated, which is great. But what I don't know is are the new mirrors motorized to extend? Or do you have to manually extend the mirrors? Thanks again and great list.
some folks find the '08+ tow mirrors have a better
"convex" mirror on the bottom. The stock tow
mirror has a wider curved shape which makes it
not as good.
I believe they also are a direct bolt on, perhaps 1 bolt
has to be cut and the connector modified - but might
be worth it.
It was the top of the line Limited for the 2002 MY. It came with the same leather seats you have in your truck, but they had "Limited" stitched into them. The Limited Ultimate also came with the monochromatic paint scheme, you got Mineral Gray, I believe Aspen Green, or Jack Bauer Black. It also came standard with the on-wheel controls for the A/C and the radio. It's basically a 2003-2005 MY Limited minus the two-tone leather seats.
