ive got a 90 2wd f150 with the 302, i was wondering what cheep mod's i could do to my truck. All ive done so far is cut my second cat and just let it dump... I was considering some headers, blocking off the coolant line that goes to the TB and maby a smog pump delete and egr delete... What else would yall suggest?? Also im not exactly ritch but i dont mind spending some decent cash..

My suggestion with you're exhaust is to get some piping on it. I have a 92 with a 302 and I cut my rear cat off, then reduced it down to 2.5 inches and then 2.25 at the tail pipe. I use the stock tail pipe. It actually gave me more power and better gas mileage. It needs some back pressure.
As for headers, some of the other guys will help you on that. Maybe they'll comment now that this was bumped up.
EGR Delete doesn't do too much. I blocked mine with a piece of tin only because it acts up on mt.
Air intake, I'm told that if you got the intake snorkel off a 4.9 or 7.5 that goes behind the grille is the BEST way to go. Yours should have the one that sits on the radiator top area and it's very restrictive. I guess they don't have good kits for our trucks.
Another help is putting electric cooling fans on. It only benefits if you have the Thermostat switch. Otherwise it puts a drag on the alternator since it runs constantly and makes no changes.
For everything else, lets hope some of the other guys see it. Good luck!
thank's brother, i was figuring i needed a little bit more back pressure on my exaust.. and i was thinking about doing a manual fan delete like you said, to free up the motor some, but i know those fan's can take a **** on you and you wouldn't even know it till the temp went nut's.
Also i was reading up on here that other people have been using the 7.3 intake snorkel for a better air induction system. im thinking about getting it.
Smog pump and EGR delete... don't do it, you'll gain NOTHING and will lose a couple MPG in the process , believe me, i did it. Also, i don't know what you call "dumping" the exhaust, but if it's doing it under the truck, it will help corrosion build up and faster wear of the undercarriage.
You want some fast, not-so-expensive gains? upgrade the exhaust (longtube headers and a single 3" exhaust will do the trick), do the sixlitre tune-up and maybe if you're into it, consider a cam upgrade (you'll need an SD friendly one).

The air intake really works. I took mine off and even that's better. But yeah the 300 6 cylinder and the 460 V8 snorkels are those ones that work I've heard. Those should be in the junk yards cheap!

yeah, when i was under my truck today i saw straight black lol. i was like awesome! undercoating
i wish i didnt live on an island at the bottom of florida so i could go to a real junkyard and pick up some doors off a truck so i can have nice door pannels and working power windows
Working power windows, those aren't to hard to get going. Usually it's just the elec. motor needing some care. I would separate the motor in two parts, the electric part and the mechanical part. In the electrical part (this is usually the first one to fail) you'll find the brushes, they resemble little pieces of coal with springs on one end, just replace those two and the motor will work again. In the mechanical part there are just some plastic gears, get some replacements at your friendliest generic parts shop and you'll be good to go.
If you're too lazy and prefer to replace the whole motor, buy a replacement (original ones cost up to $200), but if you go the cheap way i've heard that non OEM replacements are weaker than the originals, so the choice is up to you (in any case i think that beats the hell out of replacing complete doors).

I agree with encho, my truck still runs full smog equipment (I replaced the dirty egr valve, and yeah it picked up power and economy) it has smog, egr, both converters (however no mufflers). The computer hates it when stuff disappears.
the only part where i disagree would be the headers. the gain in long tubes over short tubes on an engine that isn't purpose-built for power isn't worth it. I would go with a set of shortys that bolt in and keep it easier to work on, they will support the power that most guys have. a few guys over on FSB have had great results just building a Y-pipe that has a bit bigger tubing, mandrel bends, and a flowmaster Y to bring the pipes together. I haven't read of anybody that has spent more than 150 to build one. combine the headers and Y-pipe with a 150 dollar 3" exhaust from summit and you should be set (someday my 88 will get this done)
I have an electric fan, and I recently finished just under a 800 mile road trip on scenic byways in colorado, alot of driving over 10000 feet only going 30-40 mph pulling those beautiful hills. and drove almost 3/4 of the trip not knowing that the fuse on the fan was blown, and we only found out because we took a break at the top of flat tops with the engine idling. so yeah, its a possibility, but so long as your moving and your up to date on maintenance, your generally ok. I gained about 1 - 1 1/2mpg with it, so it has easily paid for itself. otherwise all my 88 has is a k&n that came with it and the snorkel to the airbox removed.
something else that i plan to do is a set of underdrive pulleys, since they are only about 40-60 bucks, a good torquey cam would be nice, but not sure if it will ever happen.
way back when i was broke and bored, I tore into my window motors, hit em with emery cloth, used a saw blade to clean between the segments that the brushes ride on (I swear I know what they are called) and cleaned everything with alcohol. i then took out the plastic gear that always goes bad, and since my gears weren't stripped, I cut some rubber inserts from an old body mount to put into them along with a little epoxy to get them working again. haven't had a problem since.
