1988 oil pressure / gauge problem

1988 f-150 5.8l W 4 wheel drive:

runs fine on startup and driving 15 minutes later whenever i shift from drive to reverse the oil gauge shoots down to where it lights up, and it seems to lower the idle slightly.

any thoughts as far as oil pump, oil collecter, pressure sensor ETC.

I'm unsure of the miles or life it has seen. Possible reasons, Excessive bearing clearance's, clogged oil pump pickup screen, worn oil pump, worn oil pump shaft.

General rule of thumb is 10 psi for 1K rpm. The stock sender is really more of switch that will indicate problems/failure below 7 psi.

Put a manual gauge on it, then you will know the exact oil pressure
