1997 Dana 60 DRW parts comparability with 1997 TTB 50

Originally I was looking at a 1988 KP Dana 60 with 4.10 gears for the TTB swap in my 1997. Now I found a Dana 60 front axle with 3.54(that’s what seller claims but I’m thinking 3.55) out of a 1997 Dually way closer to home and a better deal.

Can I swap over the hubs, brakes and rotors from my Dana 50. Both trucks are 1997. Is there anything else needed to convert the Dually axle to SRW or just remove the hub adapter and that’s it.

Thanks for the help, this forum has been awesome for info!!

yes. the front axle is one point lower gear than rear, so 3.54 is the correct front ratio for a 3.55 rear.
the spindle on the dually is the same as on a SRW axle, the difference is the hub and rotor. so remove the locking hub, remove outer bearing lock nuts and bearing and pop the dually hub off. then slip your D50 SRW hubs and brakes on and you are good to go.

then list the DRW hubs and rotors on craigs list or evilbay and recoup some coin to pay for the swap. dually hubs usually go for good money.

Well that sounds real nice cause I just put new pads and calipers on a few days ago when one of the caliper pistons locked up, probably rusty. Let’s just say it got REAL hot when that happened!

How much would a set of Dually hubs run used?

Are there and negatives of converting a Dually axle to SRW?

the axles are the same, DRW and SRW. the difference in the hubs and rotors.
i have seen dually hubs with clean rotors go for 400 a set.

Thanks for your help on this and other threads that I have had questions on!

Originally I wanted to lower the truck from 4” lift to stock height, using the Dana 50 that is currently in the truck. After some thought I realized that the Dana 50 currently in the truck has 233k on it and needs gone through 100% for me to feel good about its reliability.

Now I am set on doing the whole thing right the first time and swapping in a rebuilt Dana 60, putting stock springs all the way around, and if money allows getting the RSK at the same time.

It seems The RSK gets good reviews, I’m curious if it’s worth the money for the ride improvement...

yes it is. and make sure you put in F350 springs with the D60, the F250 springs are a lot stiffer to compensate for the center pivot of the axle.
the RSK puts the spring shackle in the rear where it should be. this alone gives a better ride because on impacts the springs bend to the rear instead of impacting to the rear.

if that makes sense to you.

One thing to note is that depending on what RSK manufacturer you go with, you'll be forced into a 2 or 2.5" lift.
