Hey Brotha! I raced class 5 (40" under dot) for about 7 years till I went broke LOL. I was a dedicated chevy guy, even had GMPP as a sponser for a bit. Always said if I could do it over I'd have built a 408 with CHI heads to turn about 7500rpm limited of course. Should be good for about 700 hp and still keep you on the top.

There are so many variables that it's impossible to answer this.

However, if your budget and class allow, the 460 or one of it's bigger cube variants is the way to go.

I know for a fact that you can build a 466 making around 700hp for less than $5k.

Need to no more about your class rules to make it right though. Vaccum rule, carb, intake, etc.

Theres a place online that sells all the used NASCAR engines for fairly cheap for what u get.

If your class rules allow a ex-nascar type motor you could try one of those. They turn 7500 all day.
