I've got a '92 F-150 with a 5.0 302. I've read my fair share of literature on the whole propane-gasoline hybrid experiment. I have a pretty cool little rig idea I would like to try on my vehicle. I have all the hardware I need. This is NOT a gas to propane conversion - I am looking at adding a small amount of propane to the combustion mixture, so that the ecu will lean the gas mixture when the exhaust passes the O2 sensor as rich with propane added in.
My question is... should I have the propane injected into the manifold through a vacuum line, or should I connect it to the fuel rail so it is sent through the injectors? Can I do this through the Schrader valve? I have a neat little spring loaded valve that I can hook up to a second throttle cable, so that it will open equally with the throttle plates as I press down on the accelerator. Anyone who has done something similar please lend your knowledge!
Little chance anyone here has tried anything like this.
What are you trying to accomplish with it? To use less gasoline by adding propane? You're still going to have to run a middle of the road tune to work with both gasses, dropping performance.
It's more or less just a personal project I am going to undertake when I have a few days off. Just want to see if I can reduce fuel consumption by adding calculated levels of propane. My buddy has a farm up here with 2 large propane reserves and will often fill my tanks for me at no charge - so, hey, might as well give it a go.
